Uburumbuke Iwacu

Uburumbuke Iwacu Project (Prosperity in our Families and Communities) is a 4-year project to be implemented in Nyamiyaga Sector of Gicumbi District to empower caregivers in vulnerable families to be able to respond to the needs of their children.

The overall goal of the project is to improve the quality of care, support and protection of children deprived of adequate parental care in Nyamiyaga Sector, Gicumbi District, Rwanda.

The project aims to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable families, increase awareness of rights and needs of children as well as strengthen existing community child protection mechanisms and structures, to ensure that vulnerable children enjoy their rights to grow in healthy homes and safer communities and maximize their fullest potentials.

Target group

The target group consists of a total of 1,400 vulnerable children and adolescents (50% females and 50% males) from 300 poverty-stricken households. These include 100 households run by a single parent or an adolescent.
In addition, 3,000 people from the communities in Nyamiyaga sector will be reached through campaigns. 54 members of CBOs (50% males and 50% females) will receive training on various topics of project interventions, as well as on organizational development and fundraising to enable them to sustainably support vulnerable families in the community in improving their living
conditions.

Objective

300 vulnerable families have improved livelihoods and economic stability to provide quality care and protection to their children.
300 caregivers and 3,000 community members actively protect vulnerable children without adequate parental care. State and non-state local child protection structures in Nyamiyaga Sector actively prevent unnecessary separation of children and young people from their families.
