Context of the position:

SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda is a child-focused organization that provides direct services to the areas of care, education and health for children at risk of losing parental care and those who have lost parental care.
SOS Children’s Villages is a non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational and nonracial and has been operating in Rwanda since 1979. The overall mission of the organization is to build the families for children in need help them shape their own future and share in the development of their communities. SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda is legally registered as a National Association. Thus, it is seeking to recruit a competent School Secretary / Cashier for its Kayonza School.

Job summary:

The School Secretary/Cashier reports to the Principal of the School and receives technical supervision from the Location Accountant. His/her major responsibility is to ensure the proper receiving and management of funds at the school level including but not limited to Secretarial roles

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Functions related to petty cash handling

• Maintain the cash register (cash entry and exit movements);
• Carry out cash receipts/disbursements on behalf of School;
• Record all operations concerning the cash register;
• Maintain the cash books and supporting documents relating thereto;
• Perform daily cash control;
• Make cash reports (Daily, weekly, monthly, annual);
• Perform any other task given to him/her by his/her hierarchical superior
Functions related to secretarial work
• Arranging appointments;
• Preparation of meetings and drafting of minutes;
• Provide Support for professional correspondence;
• Archiving;
• Contacts with clients;
• Perform any other task given to him/her by his/her hierarchical superior

Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance and Management with three (3) years of relevant working experience in the same field or having a diploma (A1) in Accounting, Finance and Management with at least five (5) years of relevant working experience
• Must be a Rwandan citizen

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Must have good knowledge of using a computer (Word and Excel)
• Analytical thinking
• Sound judgement
• Must have impeccable integrity and diligence
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Ability to work with various administrative levels
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and training ability
• Fluent in both Kinyarwanda and English and good knowledge of written in both languages
