Project

Quality Care

The Rwandan government has created an ambitious set of rules to ensure that children’s rights are respected. However, implementation is proving challenging due to a lack of resources and the country’s development efforts being primarily focused on areas of physical infrastructure.

Obstacles to strengthening children’s rights, on the other hand, are primarily the abject poverty of many foster families, the lack of capacity of community-based support structures, as well as capacity gaps, lack of coordination and insufficient priority given to child protection issues at the level of governmental and non-governmental structures.

The project further develops the approach of projects in the area of family strengthening already implemented by SOS Rwanda. It was developed in close cooperation with governmental and non-governmental structures at local and national level.

Objective

At least 300 families in the districts of Bugesera, Kamonyi and Kicukiro have improved their skills to care for their children
At least 455 community-based structures are active and have improved capacities to support vulnerable children and families
State and non-state child protection structures at the district level are strengthened to ensure that children’s rights are respected.

TARGET GROUP
