SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda Launches the YouthCan! Project
Youth supported by SOS CV Rwanda will now benefit from a new project dubbed Youthcan!. The project was launched on September 28th 2017 at Marasa Umubano Hotel in Kigali by SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda and will benefit more than 450 youth between the age of 16 and 30 years.
The National Launch of the YouthCan! was highly attended by more than 100 participants from the government, corporate/private sector, NGOs, Young people, media and members of the SOS CV family. Senior Corporate managers present at the launch included CEO of Marriot Hotel, Country Managers from ISON BPO, DHL, POSITIVO BGH, BRIOCHEE Rwanda, TRUCONECT among others. The event was also attended by senior government officials as well as country directors and representatives of various International NGOs operating in Rwanda.
In her opening remarks, the National Director of SOS CV Rwanda Ms. Claudine Nyinawagaga noted that “with YouthCan! we will continue to support the Government of Rwanda and the Youth Sector aspirations that envisions a health, apt/attitude, patriotic, productive, innovative (HAPPi) generation”. She emphasized that SOS CV Rwanda will work with corporates, support partners and young people through YouthCan! to empower young people with information, skills, exposure to work environments, job shadowing, internships, mentorship and employment”.
Speaking at the Launch Rosemary Mbabazi, the Hon. Minister of Youth urged the young people to take advantage of already existing opportunities from the government to improve their skills, boost their level of employability and create jobs for themselves and also for their peers.
Young people present appreciated the support from SOS Children’s Villages and expressed their need for mentorship and work exposure opportunities in order to gain work-place experience and subsequently access employment. Jules Irankunda representing the young people urged employees to provide mentorship and guidance to young people so that they can make sound decisions and learn from employers personal experiences”.
SOS CV Rwanda supports more than 1032 young people (youth) through family based care and family strengthening programmes to grow into responsible citizens and lead independent lives.
