MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
When children grow up “alone”, without love and support of a parent or any other stable caregiver, they face a great risk of discrimination, neglect, abuse and abandonment. They are more likely to be deprived of opportunities to learn, mature and develop life skills to become contributing members of society for next generations. SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda focuses on building loving and caring families for children and enabling the community to address challenges that can lead to separation of children from their families.
In all four SOS Children’s Villages’ locations in Rwanda including Gasabo, Gicumbi, Nyamagabe and Kayonza, we support children through family-like care and provide them with quality education, healthcare and protection to promote their well–being. The children enjoy the benefits of living in a loving, safe and supportive family environment by “mothers and aunts”. These are child-care professionals living with children, guiding their development and running their respective homes independently. Each home in led and managed by a “mother and an aunt”.
SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda partners with the Government of Rwanda, local and International Organizations to provide child care programmes. These programmes include SOS children’s villages with families, family strengthening programme, child rights advocacy and other alternative care options for children’s better living and development.
We are very grateful to the Government of Rwanda for its support and collaboration in our work throughout the country. We highly appreciate the Children’s Villages International Senate, Promoting and Supporting Associations, Donors, Individual Givers, Regional and International Offices for policies, programmes, technical backstopping and financial contributions.
Over the past 40 years, SOS Children’s Villages Rwanda has consistently invested in the future of the children. We continue to support the Government of Rwanda’s efforts and believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress.
We urge all members of our communities who have children at heart, to join us in supporting children without parental care by loving them and providing them with required care and hope for tomorrow. We welcome continued partnership and collaboration and remain committed, accountable and transparent for the realization of the rights of children in Rwanda.
A Warm Welcome to you all!
Chairman of the Board of Directors and Legal Representative
